The Problem With Andrade That No One Wants To Talk About

The current WWE roster isn't short of Hispanic and Latino wrestlers who the promotion has failed to make money-drawing stars of.

Garza got the cursed Guerrero comparison in June 2020, with Vince personally drawing that line, presumably for his combination of magnetic charisma and high-level wrestling ability. Less than a year later, the former NXT Cruiserweight Champion wrestles exclusively on Main Event. Joining him on the D-show is his cousin, Humberto Carrillo, whose last Raw singles match was in August.

Bad Bunny is currently given as much television time as WWE can afford him as the promotion believes the more he is onscreen, the more their Hispanic and Latino audience is going to be engaged. Alongside him his Damian Priest, who has been pinpointed as another future star and has benefitted from featuring with Bunny, whose audience is huge. Priest certainly has the right combination of skills to succeed where others failed.

But so did Andrade.

This is part of a wider problem: a broken star-making system that hasn't created a genuine game-changer since John Cena, and has left a WWE roster barren of star power. You can count on one hand the number of Raw, SmackDown, and NXT wrestlers with a recent track record of pushing ratings and other consumer metrics in the right direction.

For his own sake, let's hope Andrade is soon free of this mess.
