Such a confused, scattershot plan of action has resulted in a confused, scattershot landscape. We now have a scenario where NXT's top championships are in limbo, with the latest suggestion being that the newbies will simply perform across all three brands. Does spreading them extremely thin - whilst totally blurring their intended role - help in any way whatsoever?

Probably not. Which might be why WWE also subtly dropped that a "Special Announcement" will be made on NXT in the coming week. Continuity and canon may be irrelevant to the company's writers, but talent can't be in two places at once, and neither, realistically, can championships. This may be a means to removing the gold from around their waist.

Either way, the "gold and black brand" has been left damaged by the sudden raid. Elevating NXT's championships to the main roster will diminish their prestige when they're inevitably presented as a secondary, or more likely, tertiary titles, floating across super-show pre-shows. Simply stripping the holders of the straps once they've made it to the ostensible 'big time' likewise instructs that there's no point getting invested in Full Sail if it's liable to have its reset button pressed on the whims of a capricious overlord.

The real reason for the recent NXT call ups doesn't relate to some grand plan, a company-changing long-term direction that'll benefit both fans and the talent in question. It's simply because the Titan ship's rudder sank so long ago, they no longer know whether they're going hither of thither.

Why have Tommaso Ciampa and co. made it to Raw? Why not. They've tried everything else.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
