The Rise & Fall Of TNA | Wrestling Timelines

35. September 4, 2002 | Closing Down

NWA TNA
IMPACT Wrestling

Jerry Jarrett privately makes the decision to shut down NWA:TNA. PPV buys are abysmal. An early foray into the house show market is another failure; events scheduled for August 27 and September 4 are cancelled due to lack of interest and exorbitant costs. There is seemingly no viable market for a live broadcast competitor to WWE, even on such a humble scale. But there is, shockingly, a lifeline.
