The Rock: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

21. G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013)

GI Joe Retaliation Dwayne Johnson
Paramount Pictures

A sure improvement over its 2009 predecessor and providing further proof of Johnson's reputation for being "franchise viagra", the second G.I. Joe movie is unapolgetically dumb, unrepentant trash, but serves up a number of memorable action sequences (that ninja mountain battle!), while Johnson and Bruce Willis are fun additions to the cast.

It's a shame Channing Tatum's Duke has such a small role here given the clear chemistry he and Johnson share, but thanks to the well-placed set-pieces, enjoyable visuals, killer villain (played by Jonathan Pryce) and striking a more consistent tone than the first film, Retaliation is a sequel that actually posed an intriguing future for the franchise.

Unfortunately, a third film never materialised, ultimately being cancelled in favour of a planned reboot. What a waste.
