The Rock: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

20. The Scorpion King (2002)

The Rock Scorpion King
Universal Pictures

The Scorpion King is best remembered as The Rock's first-ever starring movie, and though it was ultimately a pretty modest success, it did nevertheless prove that Johnson could headline a major Hollywood production.

What makes the movie really work is its tone: it fully embraces the fact that it's a cheesy, retro adventure flick and delivers all the silly action, nutty visuals and hammy acting you'd expect.

Nobody making this or going to see this was anticipating Shakespeare, and with its tight 92-minute runtime, it keeps things fast and light, while Johnson and the lovely Kelly Hu provide plenty of eye candy for everyone.

Just make sure to avoid all those straight-to-video sequels (there are three of them, seriously). Yeesh.
