The Rock: Every Movie Ranked From Worst To Best

12. Gridiron Gang (2006)

Dwayne Johnson Gridiron Gang
Columbia Pictures

Gridiron Gang was The Rock's first movie that really proved he had considerable dramatic acting chops, even though he sadly hasn't had too many opportunities to truly flex these muscles since.

No stranger to the gridiron himself, Johnson was a perfect choice to play juvenile detention center counsellor Sean Porter, and gives a stirring performance that remains one of his best to date.

Sure, the movie follows the usual inspirational teacher drama formula, but it's refreshingly earnest and packs a sure emotional wallop. It verges on being saccharine in parts perhaps, but overall this is the sort of role it'd be great to see more of from Johnson.
