The Rock's 10 Best WWE Moments
8. Armageddon-Wrecked
In the year 2000, Kurt Angle ruled the roost as a conniving cowardly WWE champion who seemed to live each day with a target on his back. At the time, the main event was absolutely stacked with intrigue and intertwining stories.
Steve Austin had been hit by a car driven by Rikishi in the previous year in an effort to help the Rock maintain his main-event status. The Rock rebuffed Rikishi’s help, while HHH revealed himself to be the dastardly mastermind/retcon behind the entire thing. The Undertaker had been outfoxed by the Angle at Survivor Series the previous month.
In an effort to tie all these narrative threads into a one cohesive climax, the first ever six-man Hell in the Cell match was made for December’s Armageddon PPV. In the build-up to this match, the Rock was interviewed, contemplating aloud about confronting each opponent in the match. The Great One then proceeded to lambast each of his opponents one-by-one.
Kurt Angle was portrayed as the overly smiling, milk-drinking virgin. Rikishi was called a thong-wearing fatty, and Stone Cold listened to the Backstreet Boys while getting drunk in his truck. But the most memorable was saved for HHH. Taking his enemy’s speaking cadence to task, the Rock cut a picture-perfect caricature of the King of Kings that has stayed with him for basically the rest of his career. As has been previously stated, when the Rock grabs hold of the microphone, the best bet is just duck and cover.
