The Rock's 10 WWE World Championship Reigns Ranked From Worst To Best
2. WWE Championship (1st) 15 November 1998 - 29 December 1998
You never forget your first time.
'The People's Champion' was slowly becoming one of WWE's most popular wrestlers in late 1998 before finally winning the WWE Championship in the final of the “Deadly Games” Tournament against Mankind with the help of… Vince McMahon. When Rocky had the Sharpshooter applied on McMahon’s then-ally, Mankind, Vince told the timekeeper to ring the bell and awarded the victory and the vacant title to Rock, who turned heel on the people and became 'The Corporate Champion'.
What followed were two months of entertaining promos and matches, especially with Mankind and Steve Austin as The Rock proved he could hang with the best in the main event. He eventually lost his first title on the 4 January 1999 episode of RAW (taped 29 December 1998) to Mankind, in one of the best moments in WWE history thanks to ‘Stone Cold’ and to WCW.
Poor Tony Schiavone!
