For its first decade and a half, The Undertaker's streak was something of a statistically anomaly, an accidental record whose preservation was somewhat less meaningful than the ceremony which surrounded it. That all changed with his successful defence against Batista at WrestleMania 23; now, 'Taker didn't just had a duty to protect the Streak, but protect the quality of it.

He couldn't have asked for a better sparring partner than Edge the following year. The fact the Rated-R Superstar was undefeated against the Deadman helped up the stakes, as did the ultimate opportunist's reliance on shortcuts and sidekicks to evade his inevitable fate.

In the end, the bell tolled for him too. More importantly, it birthed a new streak of Undertaker WrestleMania classics, which'd endure for the next five years.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
