The Undertaker's 10 Greatest Wrestling Matches Of All Time
7. Vs. Kurt Angle (No Way Out 2006)
Unlike many of The Undertaker's most high profile contests, this No Way Out 2006 match wasn't built on an enduring grudge or some spooktacular, supernatural spectre of the past, but rather all-out sportsmanship. Though 'Taker had left his bike in the garage and re-emerged once more as The Deadman in 2004, he'd shaken off the methodical, macabre trappings of the past. Nostalgia driven re-debut vs. Kane notwithstanding, this was an MMA-infused mortician, hitting the best professional stride of his career.
As a consequence, the bout opposite wrestling machine Kurt Angle, presented as pure athletic brinkmanship, both promised and delivered. Rarely seen, but not unrealistic, the Olympian had 'Taker's number throughout, effectively hamstringing the Deadman with his immaculate technical prowess. It was much the same template as Angle classic with Shawn Michaels a year prior, with Undertaker caught in his opponent's snare, but refusing to give in.
The Phenom, now paradoxically both undead and mortal, survived seven Ankle Locks, but couldn't outmaneuver his masterful foe, his Gogoplata eventually reversed into a pin by Angle. It's a mat classic quite unlike anything else in Undertaker's back catalogue.
