The Inferno Match has, like other gimmick contests, developed a reputation for being incredibly dangerous, but it's safe to say that it lives up to that reputation outside of kayfabe a little more than the others. That's not to say that things can't go wrong in the other match types - because they can - but it doesn't get much more dangerous than putting two fully-costumed men with very long hair in a ring that is surrounded by flames and expecting one of them to set the other on fire.

The original Inferno Match between The Undertaker and Kane was a boundary-pusher for sure, but it was also an incredibly risky move having two seven-monsters tear each other apart for nearly 30 minutes when the flames around them were burning up all the oxygen.

Throw in the fact that 'Taker literally risked his own life by diving over the flames and that both Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler noticed his hair briefly catching fire at one point, and it's easy to see why the Inferno Match was such a rarity even in WWE's most cutting-edge era.
