The Undertaker's run as part of the Hardcore division in 2001-02 is often forgotten. Cycled out of the main event picture for a spell, 'Taker was used to elevate newcomers like Rob Van Dam, and the experiment was a resounding success. Vengeance 2001 is proof of that.

Although relatively short, the 11-minutes Undertaker worked with RVD harked back to Van Dam's best ECW brawls and must have been a thrill for someone who had always believed in himself. For The Undertaker, such matches displayed his value to the promotion as a whole and enabled him to try something new under his biker guise.

Selling be damned, because this was a sprint through exciting spots and big bumps (as most RVD matches were). The end was particularly satisfying, making Undertaker look like the veteran bully the WWF's creative team surely wanted him to be and starting a curious Hardcore Title reign for 'Taker too.
