The overall story going into Ronda Rousey's match with Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam 2018 was that someone like Bliss was totally out of her depth. That tale made for a boring match, surprisingly so considering it was only 4 minutes long. In retrospect, Rousey’s Terminator-like facial expressions were one-note.

SummerSlam marked her first singles match on PPV, and it just didn’t work. Unfortunately for 'Rowdy' Ronda, it wouldn’t be long before fans were turning on her and she...just couldn’t handle it. The concept of being booed was lost on Rousey, but that wasn't a hurdle WWE had to jump early on during her honeymoon period in the company.

It is, however, worth noting that Ronda's presentation changed for the worse between her fab WrestleMania 34 debut and this battle with Bliss. She started painting her face like some long lost female member from Powers Of Pain, and the creative cast her as akin to a cyborg who found this pro wrestling lark far too easy.

There was an elitist air to Rousey that fans found difficult to get onside with. If she was going to destroy everyone in her path and act unlikeable doing it, then why should people in the building cheer her? If anything, Alexa was the sympathetic underdog in this situation.

WWE dropped the ball almost immediately by reimagining Ronda as Bill Goldberg-lite. She did have credibility when coming from the MMA game, but wrestling needs more than that. The cartoonish vibes of her face paints clashed with that realistic aesthetic too.
