The WORST Wrestling Story Every Year (1989-2025)

2007 - Vince McMahon’s Illegitimate Son

The Mr. McMahon character was meant to be killed off, only to return, in the early summer of 2007. The tragic double-murder suicide perpetrated by Chris Benoit forced WWE to abandon that plan.

McMahon seemed to want something grand to happen to him, and it was revealed shortly after that he had sired a child outside of his marriage to his wife at the time. While WWE lazily shifted from one surefire soap opera ratings smash to another here, this held a certain intrigue.

While the internal strife within the McMahon clan had lost its appeal spanning back years, a new member of the family added a new dimension to the company’s longest ongoing plot - and that new member would have boasted more personality and depth than Linda even if it were born two weeks prior.

If nothing else, this could have launched the top run of whomever was selected for the role. The literal nepo-baby of the evil boss, running amok and flaunting the rules to which he need not abide? Gaining every corrupt promotional advantage purely as a result of who his father was, who himself was detestable?

This was a money idea. WWE burned it to the ground by casting Hornswoggle in the role, purely so that Vince could get off on the more pointlessly mean-spirited aspect of his character. This was meant to be a vehicle for Mr. Kennedy, before his dumb ass got himself into trouble.

This is widely considered a gigantic waste of a great idea, but thinking more about it, who needed a second Shane McMahon?

One was enough.
