THIS Is The Top Heel In Wrestling Today
This angle served to build the absolutely spectacular eight-man tag on night two of Fyter Fest. FTR and the Young Bucks Vs. The Lucha Bros. and the Butcher & the Blade, the best match of this lockdown era, was at once an insane spot-fest and rich storytelling masterclass highlighted by a mind-blowing Canadian Destroyer to the outside, and, in a more lowkey moment, Harwood's subtle exasperation at the lunacy unfolding in front of him. But he stuck to the plan, and strategised tandem spots with the Bucks.
This followed the events of Fyter Fest night one, at which Omega and Page successfully defended their titles over the Best Friends. FTR, irrepressible d*ckheads, came out to congratulate the victors with a couple of beers. There's genius pro wrestling storytelling, and there's this: FTR know damn well that Kenny Omega is a teetotaller. They know damn well Page uses alcohol to numb his insecurities. They know damn well that the Bucks admonished Page for his drinking in the run up to their classic match at Revolution. This symbolic gesture drew Page into their maw and separated him from the elusive, personal bond Page and Omega had forged at Double Or Nothing.
Omega poured one out in a deliciously ironic subversion of what that means. This was as much a gesture of disdain to his partner as it was towards his rivals, but his partner received it - having reason to trust the hard-drinking Carolina boys he was always going to get along with better, and they knew that - as an overreaction to a misunderstanding.
Ahead of that title defence, Omega had teased Page for not having any drinking buddies.
