Those Times Wrestlers Dodged Career-Killing Bullets
1. Kevin Owens Was Almost In The League Of Nations
Another time a real-life illness seemingly saved a star from a quite dreadful, potentially career-killing experience, Kevin Owens was once reportedly on the verge of becoming a member of a rather disastrous faction.
That's according to a PWInsider.com report back in 2016, with it being said that 'KO' was going to originally be a part of the League of Nations unit that debuted in late 2015 - a team made up of heels from places outside of the United States.
Instead of becoming one of the most dominant evil groups in WWE history, however, this team of villains didn't make that much of an impact and were largely just used to make Roman Reigns look strong heading into WrestleMania 32.
In the end, the faction did more harm than good for Sheamus, Rusev, Wade Barrett, and Alberto Del Rio, and likely would have hurt Owens' own career had he joined the crew.
Why didn't he?
Because both the future Universal Champion and his son had gone down ill the same week the heel team arrived in WWE.
So, the company decided to send Owens home from that week's Raw and SmackDown tapings, meaning he was then written out of those League of Nations debut plans.
They never decided to throw him in after that. So, Owens was able to continue making a name for himself as a compelling solo act and avoid the potential career-killer that could have been his League of Nations membership.
