TNA: 5 Reasons It Is Everything Wrong With Professional Wrestling
4. Is It TNA Or Impact?
Well, after the debacle that was Genesis I thought to myself, "Okay, I will go with four sides. Maybe they will prove me wrong." God, I wish that happened more often. Although I do honestly try not to sound like a pretentious smark but when it comes to wrestling, I am unfortunately right the vast majority of the time.
Unfortunate I say because it is usually about things I don't want to be right about. Unlike smarks, I actually want to be proven wrong. So, when I hear about this new fangled Impact Wrestling, I think that maybe I could be wrong in believing that changing a "brand" name that has taken 10 years to establish might possibly be a bad idea. I will take it one step further to say that after some quiet contemplation it might be just what the doctor ordered. A new name with a new "Impact" so to speak.
But here is the thing. If you are trying to establish a new identity under a new (and different coloured) banner, you may want to get rid of the old one first. I tuned into a show I could no longer describe. Is it now IMPACT Wrestling?
Is it TNA Wrestling presents IMPACT? Is it IMPACT wrestling presents TNA? Give me something to root for, will ya? Not only had this unholy trinity stripped TNA of its one defining characteristic that was the six sides, but now they have effectively destroyed whatever brand recognition it may have once had.
Let us not forget that TNA had another show that was called "Explosion", or the B show. Now, what do you call that, IMPACT Wrestling presents Explosion? TNA presents IMPACT Wrestling's Explosion? Or just Explosion Wrestling? It's enough to drive even the most sane person up the wall with its infinite possibilities. But as these introductions could be classed under that term known as "change" (for better or worse), Carter and co. showed us the true definition of the old saying, "the more things change, the more they stay the same." And the hammer falls, twice!
