Sting - Iconic Or Ironic?
Now, unlike the previous superstars I have mentioned, I actually think Sting is a great wrestling technician. He is what most would call "a ring general", and can put on a good show with just about anyone on any roster (except for Jeff Hardy). But the funny thing about Sting when you dissect his career is that he really hasn't done anything for almost 2 decades now. Seriously, nothing. Granted, his early days in NWA and WCW were quite awesome, and his rivalries with superstars like Vader, Flair and Rude were dead set classics, so I will not be taking anything away from those accomplishments. The thing is, that was a quarter of a century ago now. The Franchise days are long over. What have you done for me lately, Sting? For all the rhetoric and fanaticism, he hasn't really done anything worthwhile (in my eyes anyway) in recent times that has actually helped the art of pro wrestling to evolve and succeed. If anything, his actions over the past 15 years have not only held back the business, but I believe are a big F U to his own fans, who unfortunately just blindly follow him as if he were a religious icon or figurehead, not unlike Jim Jones. So today, I present to you my reasons as to why this guy's retirement is not only long overdue, but why he doesn't really give a crap about the fans he supposedly loves, and who actually support him through thick and thin, regardless of how he treats them. And before the list begins properly, here's an honourable mention...
