5. His Inability To Turn Heel
Now granted, unlike John Cena, there has actually been several attempts to turn the Stinger heel, both in WCW and TNA, and they pretty much all have failed, although it has nothing to do with the creative process. The thing is, when you turn heel, you have to treat the fans as if you are a bad guy; you can't just change up the projection of who you are then go out and do the same thing. Pardon my French, but you have to act like an a**hole. The greatest example I can give is the one and only Stone Cold Steve Austin. At the height of his popularity, he could do absolutely no wrong; he was the quintessential good guy and in reality, the only other man you can compare him with in terms of fan fanaticism is Hulk Hogan. However, upon his heel turn at WrestleMania 17, Stone Cold immediately changed his interaction with the fans. He no longer flipped the authorities off; he flipped the fans off. No more handshakes or high fives, no more giving away of T-shirts or saving the day. Stone Cold Steve Austin became the biggest a**hole known to fans. This is something which Sting seemingly cannot do. His misguided attempts at becoming a heel tell me that either he refuses to fully turn to the dark side on the basis of his religious beliefs, or quite simply isn't talented enough to do it in the first place. He couldn't even pull it off in the original line up of the Main Event Mafia in TNA. How was that even possible? I am sorry, but if you can turn Hulk Hogan heel, then it should be no problem with Sting. So, in regards to this, I have to go with the latter, as if it is about his religious beliefs, quite frankly it proves he is nothing more than a hypocrite. Religion and wrestling should be treated in the same regard as religion and politics; you need to keep it completely separated, and wrestlers like Sting and AJ Styles (don't get me started, that may be for another time) act like this can be nothing but detrimental to the cause. If you honestly believe that it is against your religion to follow through on something, then by all means don't do it. Just don't come out and patronise the fans by trying to turn heel or anything similar. It is downright insulting. Besides, I don't think working for a pro wrestling company is at all favourable in terms of Heavenly ascension, as according to many belief structures, signing on that dotted line is a one way ticket to Hell itself, regardless of what company you work for.
