TNA Impact Wrestling's "Taking a Razorbackseat to Corpus Christi" Edition
In the home of Arkansas State University, TNA came into town and delivered a show that was odd to say the least. The matches and angles themselves were a little off but what puzzled me more was the fact that they basically came out and told you at the beginning of the show the next two weeks don't matter as they set up to big title matches for the next April 11 in Corpus Christi, Texas. When you go ahead and say a title match is coming in two weeks the audience already checks out of what you're saying because you're basically telling them to tune out because the next few weeks really does not matter. Now, I know with the new pay-per-view schedule that this was going to happen, but I didn't think they would be so blatant in like a throwaway episode of Impact in the process. Every episode should have one thing that makes it stand out that makes it worthy of watching. But I think I'm getting little too ahead of myself and we need to just talk about the episode. We began with everyone's favorite creature of the night, Jeff Hardy doing his best to sound like the he's angry and fired up, which means he enunciates every final syllable as he attempts to call out somebody for Open Fight Night and then Aces and Eights led by Bully Ray and Devon come out and talk about Corpus Christi and his title shot. And how he was going to call out the leader of the Aces and Eights. Then Mr. Anderson, who hasn't really talked any since he joined the group actually gave a good promo about favoritism in TNA, which was more a shoot more than anything. Hardy then attacks Anderson not Bully who he has a match with in a few weeks and challenges Anderson to a match instead. This is what is known as a Babyface being dumb. Fast-forward a little bit later on in the night, we have two segments featuring the two competitors in tonight's main event getting speeches from their perspective leaders Hardy with Hogan and Anderson with Ray and Devon. The interesting thing about both these segments was in Hogan's case, he literally changed his tune from a few weeks ago in true Hulk fashion saying that Jeff Hardy could lead this company in the future when recently he said that the company had gone far as it could with Jeff as champion. Now the interesting thing with Anderson's was the fact that it looks like that Ray and Devon were using Anderson like high school seniors use freshman for hazing rituals And I'm interested to see where that goes. Side note: That aces and eights table with the two planks of wood glued to it in the most ghetto thing I've ever seen. And once Hogan named that Hardy could pick the stipulation for the championship match in Texas in two weeks we know that a ladder has to be involved. Other things finalized for Corpus Christi is a tag team title match involving the Mexicans as they are known Chavo and Hernandes versus Aries and Roode as they defeated Kaz and Daniels, who gave one hell match. The interesting thing was the promo ahead of time has it seems like they had trouble with Chavo and is use of the word son as he used it countless times in a backstage promo which had to have been pretaped. It's funny that Chavo complains about someone lying, cheating and stealing. Since that the credo of the Guerrero clan is just that. I have a distinct feeling that we're going to see a title change or TNA is going to want to do one since they're going to be in Texas. Hopefully they don't as I think it's too soon to switch the titles off Aries and Bobby Roode. Taryn Terrel and Gail Kim kept their feud going as they added Velvet Sky and Tara to the mix led to the debut of Terrel's wrestling gear which high marks for that. But I have to question the preinterview beforehand where she comes out of the locker room almost topless with her hands over her boobs as a little bit as a little bit exploitive. That being said, I thought the two segments the ladies were and including the backstage catfight was pretty good as the ladies show intensity and we lead to a tag match for a future date. I would assume. AJ Styles continues his past and becoming the phenomenal enigma as he stares stoically while the "Cowboy" James Storm gets beat down by the Aces and Eights. Now follow this logic, Eric Young comes out which makes it two on five and then Kurt Angle comes out and the Aces and Eights part like the Red Sea when he's the same guy they have been up and left laying multiple times and somehow they're scared of the Olympic hero. This led to a okay six man tag match nothing too great here with Aces and Eights getting the win. They still need to figure out a way to make each member of the group matter. They tried to get over that Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco as tough human beings but it just didn't work. We see the new contestants for Gut Check next week including former NWA Heavyweight Champion "Scrap Iron" Adam Pearce and the returning to TNA former member of team Mexico for the World X Cup, Magno. Definitely eclectic group here I honestly don't see either man getting a contract Pearce is too old and if was twenty years ago you'd be perfect for the wrestling business and the masked man from Mexico. I don't see it. Not to mention that, but we saw the next set of competitors for the X Division Title including the returning Mason Andrews hopefully he watches himself on Twitter and the master of the Canadian Destroyer Petey Williams with the X division champion Kenny King which should be a good match next week Interesting to note here, that this was the only mention of the X-Travaganza One Night Only Pay-Per-View coming in April. I know they're taped but geez, I would think you would put a little bit more effort into selling it. Anyway, we move on to the next chapter in the Hogan-Sting Saga as Hogan now protected by Atlas security is blocking Sting from seeing the Impact GM. This leads to the insane icon calling out Hogan who begins to walk out of crutches and then drops them for some damn were reason and just when it looks like they're going to fight Atlas security comes in and breaks it up. I know why this happened realistically, but it storyline purposes isn't it supposed to be Open Fight Night, which means anybody can fight anybody and Atlas security breaks it up after Hulk tells Sting to leave. I don't understand this. But apparently this is going to lead to Matt Morgan versus Sting for some reason as the genetic blueprint had to give his two cents in before Sting left the building. And the main event, saw Hardy act more like a heel than the heel group as he uses the gavel on two members of the Aces and Eights and gets himself disqualified in a match that didn't really matter and announces the stipulation for the match in Corpus Christi of full metal mayhem TNA's version of the TLC match. Like I said before it felt like this episode with a backdrop for Corpus Christi in a few weeks, this hopefully pays off because every live event should be special. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks.
