WWE currently plans on having Liv Morgan defend her newly-won SmackDown Women's Championship against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam 2022.

This is according to Dave Meltzer, who reported on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that at the time of recording, WWE wanted Morgan to face Rousey at the Saturday 30 July premium live event in Nashville, Tennessee.

Meltzer knocked back speculation on Rousey facing Charlotte Flair at the event. This had been rumoured prior to Money In The Bank 2022 (2 July), where Morgan defeated Rousey to become SmackDown Women's Champion.

MITB was comfortably the most successful night of Liv's WWE career, with the popular up-and-comer first prospering in the titular women's ladder match, then cashing in her briefcase on Rousey. Ronda had just defeated Natalya prior to this but handed the strap over to Morgan in a show of sportswomanship after being felled. The duo hugged, too, which makes news of their seemingly impending rematch surprising: no heat was established at MITB.

In a post-ladder match interview, Morgan had stated she planned on holding onto her MITB briefcase until WrestleMania 39 (1 and 2 April 2023). Rousey has been linked to a match with long-term rival Becky Lynch at that event.
