Triple H: 5 Awesome Matches And 5 That Sucked

4. Triple H Vs Shawn Michaels - World Title Match, December 29 2003

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdFl05ZLPsM A forgotten classic, I was hugely into this, it was absolutely fantastic. Shawn Michaels challenged for the world championship in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas. The crowd was firmly behind HBK and Hunter was going to give his friend a match to remember - the selling, timing, execution and psychology were absolutely spot on. Hunter and Michaels have a great chemistry together and this was the best proper wrestling match they ever had. The transitions, reversals, big spots, near falls and application of moves were all done with expertise. Michaels brand of athleticism really helped the match, but it was Hunter in the role of heel champion who really told the story and got the match over. Helmsley's selling made it seem like HBK really was going to win the title that night. The climax to this great wrestling match was one of the best Raw main event finishes I ever remember. For nearly half an hour the crowd had been on the feet for their hometown boy Shawn Michaels. The finish came when Eric Bischoff came down to officiate the match after a ref bump. In an electric ending, Hunter whipped Michaels into the turnbuckles, only for HBK to bounce back and nail the champion with sweet chin music. A battered Michaels collapsed on top of Hunter and Eric Bischoff counted the three. We had a new champion. But we didn't - Eric then surprisingly handed The Game the championship. Bischoff pointed to video footage that showed HBK's shoulders had also been down when pinning Hunter. It was a memorable ending to a brilliant match.
