It is quite rare for sequels to be better than the original in anything, but on this occasion the third time was the charm as it surpassed both the 2011 and 2001 matches these two men had at WrestleMania. The Undertaker had made his long awaited return to WWE television in January 2012, and he explained the reason for his return was wanting to have another go with Triple H. The reasoning was that The Undertaker wasn't satisfied by the way he left the ring the previous year (on a stretcher), and he didn't want that to be the lasting image of him at WrestleMania. Triple H, however, wanted no part of a rematch. Playing the part of the smart businessman, he explained that Taker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania was good for business and he didn't want to be the one to end it. After a return by his buddy Shawn Michaels, who proceeded to try to convince Triple H to take the match, Triple H finally accepted when the Undertaker suggested that Triple H wasn't as good as his friend, Michaels. Michaels ended up serving as the guest referee for the match, as these three legends of the Attitude Era were all in the ring together for perhaps the final time at a WrestleMania. It was an excellent, back and forth outing, with the Undertaker prevailing. After the match, Undertaker and Michaels helped Triple H to the back. When they reached the top of the entrance, all three men embraced in a memorable WrestleMania moment.
