Two Former WWE Stars Pitched A Tag-Team Spin Off

Who wanted to piggy-back another duo's success?

Former WWE man JTG told Sportskeeda that he and Darren Young once collectively pitched an idea to company creative that'd see them become an "urban, black MNM".

Those who weren't watching during the team's peak run might've spotted Johnny Nitro (John Morrison) and Joey Mercury on the WWE Network. They clicked quickly to become one of the best WWE tags of the mid-00s, and the team gave Melina a platform to get over too.

JTG spotted how well MNM had gelled and wanted to do something similar with Young.

"They did like a Hollywood, GQ model thing. [MNM] would come out in black mink coats, shades and just be divas. We pitched a whole thing - we were going to call each other 'Devos'."

That's what JTG had to say about the pitch. WWE ultimately weren't interested in the off shoot gimmick and felt it was too similar to what Nitro and Mercury had done. They also wanted JTG to continue striving to become a singles star after splitting him from old Cryme Tyme partner Shad Gaspard.

WWE did briefly book JTG as Young's ally on the old NXT show, but that was it.
