Ultimate Warrior: 5 Things To Forget And 5 Things To Remember

2. Classic Matches

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfqV3xI8l_s The Ultimate Warrior was part of two of the greatest matches in WrestleMania history and one of the most underrated SummerSlam bouts. At WrestleMania VI, Warrior clashed with the immortal Hulk Hogan in the first major bout between two immensely popular babyfaces on the grand stage. It was also the first time that the Intercontinental champion met the WWE champion in a title-for-title match at WrestleMania and the two Superstars made sure that the historic bout was every bit as epic as it possibly could be. Hogan missed a leg drop late in the bout and Warrior capitalized on an opportunity, delivering a big splash and pinning Hogan's shoulders to the mat for three. It was an unheard of loss for Hogan. Not since he had captured the WWE title for the first time six years earlier had he been soundly and cleanly defeated. The win instantly cemented Warrior as a star and the post-match celebration in which Hogan presented him with the heavyweight championship and embraced him before leaving him to enjoy his moment only served to further immortalize the character in the annals of WrestleMania history. A year later, Warrior squared off Randy Savage in a retirement match that incorporated every aspect of sports-entertainment into one classic, all-time great match. There was pomp, circumstance, sheer athleticism and spectacular storytelling. Savage dropped five of his trademark top rope elbow drops and, to the shock and awe of the audience in Los Angeles, Warrior kicked out. When he he hit his signature offense on Savage and the Macho King kicked out, Warrior looked to the heavens and began questioning his purpose. Was he really meant to continue down the path he was on? He got his answer and after several shoulder blocks to Savage, pinned him with a single foot to his chest. It was unheard of to score clean, undisputed victories over Hogan and Savage in that era. Warrior did just that, accomplishing both on the grandest stage imaginable.
