Ultimate Warrior: 5 Things To Forget And 5 Things To Remember

2. The Name Change

In 1993, James Hellwig legally changed his name to Warrior. Allow that sentence to set in for a moment. There are plenty of explanations for such a move, most revolving around business reasons. The performer feels as though he was as responsible for the creation of the Warrior character and wanted to be able to be referred to by that name in any business venture he may partake in, whether it was in or outside of the wrestling industry. As Linda McMahon revealed during her introductory speech at this past weekend's Hall of Fame ceremony, however, it was the lifestyle that the man lived that led to him adopting the name of Warrior. Whatever the case may be, his personal choice to take the name as his own may have had many scratching their heads in confusion but it was one he clearly thought about and went through the troubles in the courts to execute. For that reason alone it is a decision that should, at the very least, be respected.
