Último Dragón: More Belt Than Man
6. WCW And The J-Crown
In 1996 he started wrestling for WCW under an anglicised version of his name, 'Ultimate Dragon'. He made his WCW pay-per-view debut at Hog Wild, where he unsuccessfully challenged Rey Misterio Jr. for the WCW Cruiserweight Championship. He didn't let that loss get to him though, and he soon returned to wrestle some matches in Japan, where on October 11, 1996 he defeated the Great Sasuke for the famous J-Crown Championship.
The J-Crown, also know by the less succinct title of 'J-Crown Octuple Unified Championship', was created in 1996 by New Japan Pro Wrestling, who apparently decided there were too many light-heavyweight championship belts floating about, and decided to unify eight titles from various different companies in a tournament held in August 1996. The holders of each of the eight championships battled it out, gradually bringing the titles together until finally the Great Sasuke defeated Último Dragón in the finals to capture all eight belts and become the inaugural champion. It seems Último wasn't happy with second place though, and a couple of months after the tournament he once again faced off with Sasuke, defeating him to claim the J-Crown title for himself.
So, for those of you who are interested, in addition to his NWA World Middleweight Championship, Último Dragón was now also the holder of - brace yourself - the British Commonwealth Junior Heavyweight Championship, the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Championship, the NWA World Welterweight Championship, the UWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship, the WAR International Junior Heavyweight Championship, the WWA World Junior Light Heavyweight Championship and finally, the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship.
