Mordecai was built up with a series of vignettes in 2004, with WWE clearly having big plans for this religious zealot character. His similarities to the Undertaker were no coincidence, the whole package was designed to be a new foil for Taker, with the deliberate white robes, crosses and white hair meant to make Mordecai the opposite of The Deadman. The plan was firmly in place that the white of Mordecai would do battle with the black of Undertaker, with some suggesting it would have been done at WrestleMania 21 in 2005, although late 2004 seemed more realistic. Before starting the Taker feud, it was decided that Mordecai would be fed a few jobbers, so he was first booked to smash through Scotty 2 Hotty at Judgement Day in a poor squash. Within weeks, the WWE knew they had a problem on their hands, Mordecai was abysmal in every respect. Whether it was on the mic or in the ring, this was one guy who just didn't have what it took. The look didn't help, Mordecai's tight white ring gear and bleach blonde hair made him appear silly more than it did scary. This whole character which had been created for The Undertaker to feud with was dropped before hostilities even started... a feud so bad that it never even got off the pages of the script.
