Vince McMahon's 10 Biggest Failures
7. Cape Cod Buccaneers
Little known fact: McMahon once owned a minor league hockey team. No, it did not include the Goon.
In 1979, McMahon bought the Cape Cod Coliseum, a 7,200-seat arena in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts. To add another attraction besides rock concerts and wrestling events, he joined the new Atlantic Coast Hockey League, purchasing the rights to the Cape Cod Buccaneers franchise and hiring former New Haven Nighthawks right wing Jim Troy as the team's coach and general manager.
After two franchises folded within two months of the first season, McMahon asked to borrow $15,000 from the league due to “slow cash flow,” but was denied.
He
folded shortly thereafter.
