Vince McMahon's 10 Biggest Successes
7. Relying Upon Pat Patterson
The
first Intercontinental Champion has had his fingerprints on WWE TV for over 30
years, acting as McMahon’s right-hand, the ultimate “finish” consultant and a
creative genius. Although Patterson initially offered to help out on his off
days (as documented in his autobiography Accepted), it was McMahon’s idea to
bring the wrestling great off the road and behind the desk full-time. As all
successful bosses do, McMahon surrounded himself with people smarter than him,
harnessing Patterson’s aptitude and connection with the wrestlers to benefit
the company as a whole.
Patterson’s
most notable work includes inventing the Royal Rumble, conceiving the Bret
Hart-Shawn Michaels’ Ironman Match at WrestleMania XII, pushing for Rey
Mysterio to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 22, and
mapping out the Hulk Hogan-Ultimate Warrior match at WrestleMania VI.
