It was a dream come true for wrestling fans and a new business model for the McMahon empire. The WWE Network dismantled the traditional pay-per-view structure, allowing viewers to pay only $9.99 a month for unlimited content including events they used to pay $35, $40, $50, even $60 for. Utilizing the vast tape libraries acquired over the years, WWE’s version of Netflix offers fans a never-ending treasure trove of classic action.

After WresteMania 33, three years since launching the network, WWE announced 1.95 million subscribers, a 7% increase from the same time a year prior. The domestic subscriber base grew 4% to 1.45 million and the international subscriber base soared 15% to 497,000.

It’s still too early to know how else the Network will change the business, but so far McMahon has made the right move by adapting to the technological advancements of the 21st century.
