Vince Russo: 10 Reasons WCW Was Its Own Worst Enemy

10. The Dude In Charge Was An Accountant

youtubeyoutubeWhen I was hired at WCW, the guy in charge of the wrestling division at the time was a gentleman by the name of Bill Busch. Now, Bill, was probably one of the nicest guys you€™d ever want to meet---especially in the wrestling business. He was a family man, open, honest, definitely above board, and oh yes---HE WAS AN ACCOUNTANT! Even though the man was as sharp as a tack, Bill had ZERO experience when it came to wrestling. Therefore, in wrestling terms, he was a €œmark€, who was very easy to €œwork€. Now, keep in mind, I didn€™t spend much of my time at the office. I was either at home writing the show, or on the road producing it, so in those first three months, Bill and I only saw each other here and there at TV. However, when he was back in the office, others who made their residence in that hideous blue building, had excess to Bill 24/7. That€™s where the stooges went to work--those who thought they could do a better job than me. So, they got in Busch€™s ear and and began burying me while I was away. This is what ultimately led to me leaving only after three months, when Bill called me in his office and said that we are going in a €œnew direction€, and you are going to be part of a €œcommittee€ that I am going to appoint. I calmly said, €œThanks€”but, no thanks.€ Bill€™s declaration didn€™t come as a surprise to me. I€™m from New York---I knew what was going on. My mindset was that I wasn€™t going to spend a second of my time politicking. If Bill wanted to buy into his stooges BS, then he could go with them---I knew what the outcome would be. You see, people tend to politic when they don€™t have the goods to do a better job than you. Unfortunately the problem is---if they ultimately succeed in replacing you---they they have to step in and do the job---which they are incapable of. So, that is exactly what happened, and why I was called back three months later.
