Vince Russo's 10 Biggest “What If” Moments In WWE History

9. What If The Montreal Screwjob Never Happened?

A few articles back, I wrote in detail the history surrounding the €œMontreal Screw Job€, and the reasons why Vince McMahon more, or less, double-crossed Bret €œThe Hit Man€ Hart. As I detailed earlier, Bret was WCW bound after the match and Vince was concerned that Bret€™s new boss, Eric Bischoff, might talk Bret into doing something disrespectful and €œheinous€ to his WWE World Title. So€”what if Bret had actually gone over that night in Montreal and had the WWE Title in his possession the very next night on RAW? Would Bret have cut a compelling promo about leaving the WWE and going to WCW€”which would have been great TV? Or, would Bret have no-showed and been on NITRO dropping the WWE World Title in a Dempsey Dumpster? Once again, even though we will never know, to this day I could never see Bret Hart doing that. I€™ve stated it a million times, Bret was an all around stand-up guy, and professional, I don€™t believe that he would have ever tarnished the WWE World Title in that fashion. But...yet...there€™s Eric Bischoff, and if you personally know Eric Bischoff, you know that there€™s an outside chance of anything happening, and that€™s EXACTLY why Vince McMahon made the decision he made.
