Violent & Bloody AEW Matches That Made Us SICK!

1. Kenny Omega Vs. Jon Moxley - AEW Full Gear 2019

This match was so sickening that Dave Meltzer momentarily turned into Gandhi. He despised how bloody and violent it was - rating it ****1/2.

Jon Moxley's wife, Renee Paquette, took to Twitter to register her disgust. She could not believe what she was seeing and seemed to not endorse it.

Complaints were made to the local athletic commission!

It's almost quaint how naively the match was received, which isn't to say it wasn't incredibly dangerous or unsettling. It's not as if taking a bump on a mousetrap board looked like a walk on crunchy leaves on a chilly autumnal day.

Still, the magic was in the work: real, flesh-tearing barbed wire was used early. The barbed wire used on the spiderweb contraction on which Omega bumped - the "great artist", as Mox called him in the build - was heavily gimmicked. But by that time, in a classic wrestling grift, the lie was much easier to believe when you had been shown a glimmer of the truth.

Cute in places - Mox did in fact literally chain wrestle Omega - it was horrendous(ly awesome) in others. A long fight, so gruelling that only something awful could decide it, something awful did.

Omega - who took a Tiger Driver '91 and didn't think much of it - recalled with horror on WOR the bump he took on the exposed wooden boards when missing a Phoenix splash.

The collision was so sickening that it was as if he'd been thrown ten storeys to the ground below
