WALTER Signs With WWE
The 31-year-old will play a major role in WWE's European expansion.
Independent wrestling sensation WALTER has signed with WWE, according to PWInsider.
Writing that the 31-year-old will "be part of WWE's European expansion plans," the write-up notes that WALTER is expected to play a big role in NXT UK, and will presumably continue working for affiliated promotions like PROGRESS and wXw.
This shouldn't be a huge surprise. Dave Meltzer originally reported WWE's interest in the burly Austrian back in March, and with the promotion's talent acquisition efforts more aggressive now than ever before, of course they'd be interested in adding WALTER to the fold.
With the likes of Ricochet, Matt Riddle, and countless others joining NXT, WALTER has become the global independent scene's leading light in 2018. He's one of the most three-dimensional big men in the game, and a guy whose bruising, hard-hitting style and commanding ring presence earn plaudits everywhere he performs, whether that's in Germany for wXw or with American groups like PWG.
As with all independent signings, there'll be legitimate concerns regarding how WALTER will adapt to WWE life. Operating within the European expansion eases those, and he's clearly talented enough to make it work, so let's hope the move pays off.
