What 10 WWE Comebacks Would Look Like

9. Shelton Benjamin

One of the more prominent midcarders from the Ruthless Agression era, Shelton Benjamin wowed audiences with his superb athleticism, making a reputation for himself with innovative moves in multi-man ladder matches. However, hitting a ceiling with his advancement, Benjamin was released in 2010. He was set to return on the SmackDown roster last year, with vignettes signalling his comeback airing in the early days of the brand split. Unfortunately, a shoulder injury sidelined him for several months, and although he’s recovered, WWE have not yet signed him.

Given the relative lack of depth on SmackDown at the moment, there’s always a good chance they’ll give Benjamin a call. In the event they do, he would serve a solid hand in the midcard. While many a hardcore fan would crave a main event run he was deprived of in his prime, the reality is that Shelton is close to 42 years old, and unlike wrestling geezers like Goldberg, Benjamin was never the sparkling personality that Vince found enticing. Even so, it would be safe to say he’d be a fixture in the US title scene, and the fans would be happy to see the former Gold Standard have a final feelgood run in WWE.
