What 10 WWE Comebacks Would Look Like

4. Goldberg

In late 2016, Bill Goldberg made the most improbable and unusual comeback in modern history. On the verge of 50 years old, the former WCW megastar destroyed Brock Lesnar in less than two minutes, won the Universal Championship in about 30 seconds, and then dropped it to Brock at WrestleMania in a five minute finisher-fest. It was a strange run that saw Goldberg wrestle less than ten minutes across six months, but it did its job, and now that he’s retreated back to the proverbial wilderness, the question becomes “Who’s next?” That is: assuming there is a next.

Well, seeing as how Goldberg never officially retired and the fact that both he and Vince McMahon like making money, another run in the near future is more likely than not. Don’t expect them to put another world title on him, as that novelty was only good for a one time deal (even then, the fans were a bit miffed).

Instead, they’ll likely use Goldberg in a program with Roman Reigns. Given that Reigns retired the Undertaker and is set to dethrone Lesnar as Universal champion, it’s safe to say Vince is keen on feeding every high profile megastar to Reigns to give him the rub. If Goldberg is able to stay in shape long enough, expect to see a generational “Spear vs. Spear” program for a SummerSlam or Survivor Series down the line.
