2. Drew McIntyre
Out of everyone on this list, Drew McIntyre has improved the most in the ring, on the mic, and as a character since his departure from WWE. While he’s only 32, he first joined the WWE main roster in 2009 with gigantic expectations thrust upon him. Vince McMahon was the one who introduced him to the audience, meaning anything less than a main event run with the multiple world title reigns would feel disappointing. He never came close to capturing that success in his first run.
McIntyre did fine for himself in the midcard but quickly began losing steam. Behind-the-scenes he was thought to not quite be mature enough for the push he was given, and by the time he was done with the company, he was placed in the ridiculous 3MB act. While the group got over to an extent, the once promising McIntyre looked horribly out of place. While in the middle of the act he, along with Jinder Mahal, were dropped from the company, leaving it a One Man Band once again.
Drew was far from done in the business, though, as he quickly traveled the globe to make a name for himself. He put on fantastic matches in Evolve and WCPW and eventually found himself as the Impact Heavyweight Champion. He looked set to be a top act in the Jeff Jarrett era of the promotion but due to lack of communication, he tried his luck back in WWE. Unfortunately, he has to start in NXT first.
It’s highly likely that McIntyre will emerge on the main roster once again. However, it’s far from a sure thing that Vince McMahon will ever see him again as a “chosen one." If nothing else, he made the company look a bit foolish for ever letting him go in the first place.
