What Happened To Enzo Amore's Proposed WWE Return (WWE News)

Enzo Amore was reportedly in talks to return to WWE earlier this year.

With various reports earlier this year that Enzo Amore and Big Cass were set to make a return to WWE, only one half of that story has played out.

Of course, Big Cass returned in August, and he's spent the past couple of months targeting the likes of Je'Von Evans, Dragon Lee, and Rey Mysterio on the Raw brand.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that there was indeed a plan for both Cass and Enzo Amore to return to WWE, but that plan called for the two to be kept separate. Instead of reuniting the classic Enzo and Cass pairing, Enzo would have been used in NXT, with WWE not wanting to limit Cass' upside by having him in a tag team.

Meltzer was told that Enzo's return was "pretty much a done deal", though it appears those talks didn't get over the line, as Smacktalker Skywalker has yet to turn up in NXT, or on any other WWE brands, for that matter.

For those who may have missed the initial reports, it was back in May that word first came out that WWE was looking to bring back Enzo and Big Cass, at a time when Big Bill's AEW contract was expiring imminently. It was then reported that Amore had been spotted at the WWE Performance Center, adding further fuel to these rumblings. Vignettes would start airing on Raw hyping up Cass's return for August 3rd, with many presuming that Enzo would be alongside his seven-foot-tall pal. However, Cass has been used as a singles act since returning.
