Who Was REALLY Responsible For WWE's New 24/7 Championship
This news might, at least, rid us all of a certain chant...
In news that will doubtlessly shock many of you, WWE's new 24/7 Championship - a somewhat desperate gambit to shake things up in WWE, which as a company is already that April Fool's can of Duff in the Simpsons - did not spring from the mind of Vince McMahon.
In fact, the title was imposed on WWE by the USA Network, per this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
USA has "complained" about tumbling ratings for some time, pitching various ideas to WWE in specific regards to the wildly unpopular third hour, which invariably performs dismally and has done throughout recent years. According to Dave Meltzer, "one person with knowledge of the story" dismissed all of these ideas as "terrible", rendering this unseen fax the new Holy Grail of professional wrestling, post-Hart/Magee.
How sh*tty could those ideas possibly be, for WWE to have ignored them in favour of Baron 'Double Duty' Corbin, week on week?
In any event, Vince felt he had to take one idea on board, and thus the 24/7 Championship was born. A title with actual potential to drive R-Truth's eternally charming comedy vehicle, the verdict so far is inconclusive.
But, since the loose "division" is so far comprised of acts Vince deems low-priority, may God have mercy on all of our souls.
