Why AEW Must Take The Nuclear Option

Shane McMahon
WWE.com

Imagine him in a one-off programme against Sting and Darby Allin. Shane trying to one-up Darby as a daredevil in a carefully laid-out party match would make best use of his one skill: falling from ridiculous heights. His hyperactive sh*thousery would play well in front of AEW crowds who congregated in the first place because they hated what had become of WWE. Shane is the closest thing to getting Vince himself to play heel on the show.

Would he do it?

Would a man who booked the 2022 Royal Rumble match around being a match for Brock Lesnar willingly sign up to do a job for Darby Allin? Or indeed anything outside of the WWE bubble?

Well, he wasn't allowed back into it in 2022, and that is unlikely to change now that Triple H is overseeing creative; when he wants to bring back somebody useless, he simply draws on the Black and Gold talent pool. Shane doesn't need to work another day in his life - or, more accurately, he didn't need to work one in the first place. The man has a monstrous ego on him, mind, and he always seemed to take pride in being "one of the boys" who wasn't like a McMahon at all. He was cool! He took bumps!

For all the Succession memes, nobody really knows what the McMahon family looks like. Shane might consider jumping to AEW something that might destroy his relationship with his family forever. Still, a "Holy sh*t!" chant and people thinking he's tough? It's a pick 'em!

If Tony Khan can think of that one, First Dance-sized hook with which to bring back the lapsed AEW fans of '21, Dynamite might be in a better position to retain them.
