Why, Shawn, why?!?!?!?!

For many young wrestling fans who tuned into the 11 January 1992 edition of Wrestling Challenge, they had their heart broken by the man who would soon become known as the Heartbreak Kid.

Of course, it was that edition of Wrestling Challenge where Shawn Michaels turned on Marty Jannetty during an episode of Brutus Beefcake's Barber Shop talk show. While it may not be quite held up to the same level of a Piper's Pit, a King's Court, a Highlight Reel, a Cutting Edge or a Kevin Owens Show, the Barber Shop has a special place in history for being the home of one of the most notable break-ups in the annals of WWE.

In a kayfabe sense, tensions had been brewing between Michaels and Jannetty in the months leading up to that fateful night, with several significant losses being down to miscommunication. As such, that Barber Shop appearance was designed to repair the fractures between this beloved tag team. Deciding he'd had enough of his partner, it was here that Shawn superkicked Marty and threw him through Beefcake's Barber Shop window.

In reality, much of 1991 had been problematic for the Rockers as the relationship between the pair started to break down. So much so, the police were called after the two got in a very real fight at a hotel one night. The only reason why no arrests were handed out, was because Randy Savage managed to convince the cops that this fight was merely part of a wrestling storyline.

Regardless, the Rockers were done and dusted, and WWF had opted to split one of its most popular tag teams.
