Why Vince McMahon Won’t Push Luke Harper

Clearly, as of now, Vince McMahon is going to push Harper. Whether that manifests as a tag team match or the formation of a new, Daniel Bryan-led stable isn’t clear. What is clear is that Harper was only brought back to WWE to either A) excuse Roman Reigns from a clean loss, and redirect a storyline that has invited utter farce, and/or B) to convince him not to sign with All Elite Wrestling.

This push will not last. Few do, regardless of the motivation. As for this specific motivation—an attempt to appease a want-away talent—recent history is ominous.

Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson were recently persuaded to re-sign with WWE, under the promise of more money and profile. They captured the RAW Tag Team Championships on the July 29, 2019 RAW, but held them for just three weeks. The division was reconfigured to factor in the Seth Rollins Vs. Braun Strowman programme, and to “do something” with Robert Roode.

Sasha Banks has fared better after negotiating a better position with WWE, but then, she’s well-liked internally and stars in a division in dire need of them. The Harper situation is different. McMahon isn’t a fan of him.

Even the performers WWE has attempted to push sincerely haven’t really connected.
