Why WWE SmackDown Is Getting A MAJOR Upgrade (WWE News)

WWE knows it needs to improve things big time on SmackDown, so management has plans.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select reports that SmackDown "could be getting a refresh" pretty soon. This comes in the wake of concerns that the blue brand has been a little...less-than lately. Indeed, the 'go home' show heading into WrestleMania 42 was rated one of the worst episodes in a while right here on WhatCulture.

A quick glance at social media reveals just how irked some other wrestling fans were by the show. So, changes are required if it's going to return to form sooner rather than later.

One of WWE's plans is a talent refresh. Fightful noted that NXT's Jacy Jayne could be heading to Fridays first and foremost. Her main roster call up has been expected for a while, and anyone who watches the developmental brand will agree that it's richly deserved. Besides, there isn't really all that much left for Jacy to do on NXT anyway.

Interestingly, Fightful Select's report also included word that Rey Mysterio could be set to play a starring role. That'll turn some heads, because the masked legend is clearly at the tail end of his iconic career. It remains to be seen exactly what Mysterio back on SmackDown full time would involve.

However, SmackDown's "theme song, set design and logo are expected to remain unchanged". That'll annoy those who believe a presentation reboot should follow the talent shuffle, but the most important thing is that WWE gets back to killer storytelling, characterisation and matches on Friday nights.

Fingers crossed some smaller initial changes have a butterfly effect across the brand overall.
