Why WWE WrestleMania No Longer Has The Best Matches Of The Year
5. WrestleMania 37-38: "Those Who Fail To Learn From History..."
To understand the card of WrestleMania 38 you need to understand Vince McMahon's mental hierarchy of potential competitors: part-timers and megastars are first, B-level celebrities are second, full-time wrestlers are last.
WM38, again, will be a part-time flavoured cake, with celebrity involvement serving as the icing. Ronda Rousey, Edge, Steve Austin, Johnny Knoxville, Logan Paul, Pat McAfee and Vince McMahon him-f*cking-self are set to be the stars of the show. We missed out on yet another Shane McMahon match only because of contingencies. And then of course, there's the main event.
WWE are promotional masterminds. The posters, the thumbnails, the advertising, the video promo which no one doubts will be a masterpiece: it's hard not to feel even the tiniest bit of hype. But if you’re genuinely and spontaneously excited about Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns III, you’re either a very casual fan, or you’ve developed Stockholm Syndrome towards Vince McMahon’s insipid booking. It will be the predictable four-move spotfest it always is, the only element of suspense residing in the order of sequences (will the interference by The Usos come before or after the second F5?).
