Why WWE WrestleMania No Longer Has The Best Matches Of The Year
4. WrestleMania 37-38: What Could Have Been
But let’s say the match delivers. Let’s say Roman, Brock and the producers really go to a lot of trouble to come up with fresh ideas, unexpected spots and maybe even a major swerve. Let’s say the match is a pleasing surprise and the best of night. Still, it’s hard not to think about that parallel universe where Roman is defending the belt in a No Holds Barred main event against a Drew McIntyre, a Big E, a Riddle, a Keith Lee or even an Aleister Black.
Even when part-timers deliver, you can’t help but wonder how full-timers would’ve fared.
Just imagine what Seth Rollins, Finn Bálor and The Miz would've been able to achieve at WM34 had they been given 25 minutes - instead of 15 - like Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit and Triple H, for instance, once were. Imagine a world where the 35 minute match at WrestleMania 36 was not Edge vs Orton but Sami Zayn vs Daniel Bryan. And if the Seth Rollins/Triple H Non-Sanctioned Match at WrestleMania 33 wasn’t that bad, who's to know if a Seth Rollins vs Kevin Owens showdown, given the same length, stipulation and build, wouldn't have been an era-defining classic ?
