8. Taker 'Retires'
We don't hear from either the Undertaker or John Cena for the first week after the Rumble before it's announced that on the following episode of Smackdown Live, The Undertaker will be making a special announcement. Rumours soon start to spread. The Internet Wrestling Community is in meltdown. Could this be the Last Ride for the Phenom?
Sure enough, at the start of the show, a familiar bong echoes through the arena. The Undertaker arrives, making his iconic entrance and cutting a promo where he reveals that after almost three decades of destruction, his failings at the Rumble made him realise that it's finally time for him to hang up his boots for good. The crowd gasps, boos and pleads for One More Match, but Taker isn't having it. He's done, and makes his iconic pose as his music strikes again.
You know what happens next. Up goes that entrance theme, and out comes John Cena, who is booked as a part of the imminent Smackdown PPV Elimination Chamber main event, but has a challenge for the deadman: once he's won his 16th title, he wants Taker at Mania. One more match. One more shot at the gold.
Taker looks Cena dead in the eyes. He looks around at the crowd YES-ing their ass off. He looks at Cena again. He smirks, shakes his head and walks away. Cena is left stunned. The crowd is bemused. Elimination Chamber beckons...
