WrestleMania 36: 10 Matches We Want To See (And How To Book Them)
6. Big E vs Xavier Woods vs Kofi Kingston
After years of clawing their way up WWE's list of priorities (the story about them having to practically beg for their first t-shirt still rocking me to my very core) The New Day are set for a very, very interesting 12months. After repopularising the Freebird Rule and rotating their line-up regularly, the trio has now elevated Kofi as the de facto "best of the bunch". As well all know, any status or power in wrestling immediately invites challenge.
The Shield triple threat will, bizarrely, go down a huge missed opportunity. After establishing all three members as credible singles stars in their own right a seemingly inevitable WrestleMania main event instead because a last-minute ticket shifter for C PPV Battleground. The match was fine, if unremarkable, and WWE won't want to make the same mistake here.
How You Book It: There's probably neither the time nor the desire for WWE to establish all three of these guys and separate singles stars in the main-event. Kofi's success is a slice of fan appeasement that'll likely be long forgotten in Stamford this time next year, and despite Big E and Woods' huge popularity, it's not success they're ever likely to share in.
Ergo, the only narrative in the break up of The New Day is the break-up of the New Day. They'll never swing back around further down the line as the top 3 stars of a division, so the implosion has to be what counts. The obvious narrative is having Big E turn on Kofi upon his return with Xavier caught in the middle. He can't choose a side so he has to choose neither.
