WWE's highest creative priority has long been to have Reigns hoist the title at the end of WrestleMania. To say that this was a foregone conclusion would be a gross understatement.

Nothing short of catastrophic fan backlash could pry their fingers off that trigger last year, and it was beyond wishful thinking to believe that they would hold off another twelve months.

If history didn't tip you off, then surely Stephanie's pre-match heat-seeking let you know the plan was to coax fans into cheering the €œright guy.€ Fast-forward one three-star match and one heavily manufactured (and as it were, successful) crowd pop, and we had an ending we saw coming since toddlers were in the womb.

There stood Reigns, belt in hand, going through the motions of selling his crowning achievement. There was little of the usual confetti and pyro you would see at the end of WrestleMania, as if WWE knew that a celebratory atmosphere was too much to ask from the majority of the crowd.

And there you have it. As entertaining as this year's event was, there's no getting around the fact that most of the upper card played out in quite obvious fashion. There were plenty of surprises to be found... just not in the match results themselves.
