Wrestlers With The Most World Titles (Across All Major Federations)
20. Tatsumi Fujinami (8)
6 IWGP Heavyweight Championships
1 NWA Championship
1 UWA World Heavyweight Championship
Tatsumi Fujinami was one of NJPW's most valuable players from the late '80s to the early '90s. He was the second IWGP champion in the current instalment of the belt, and became the first man to simultaneously hold both that title and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship when he defeated Ric Flair in the main event of the first WCW/New Japan Supershow in 1991.
That's not to say Fujinami was hibernating prior to his world championship days. He was active ever since the late '70s, and some of his feats include winning the WWWF Junior Heavyweight Championship twice (one of the reasons WWE was willing to induct him in their HOF), forming a reputable tag team with Antonio Inoki, defeating El Canek (more on him later) for the UWA World Heavyweight Championship in 1983 and being voted Best Technical Wrestler thrice by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in '85, '86 & '89.
He won his last IWGP Heavyweight championship in 1998 from Kensuke Sasaki, and his six reigns were the record for more than ten years, up until Hiroshi Tanahashi rolled past him.
